Dutch authorities are currently searching for a suspect linked to a bombing incident at a building associated with a Christian pro-Israel organization that occurred on Friday night.
The explosion took place late Friday at the Israel Center in Nijkerk, located in central Netherlands. Fortunately, the blast caused only minor damage and no injuries were reported.
As per updates from Dutch public media, police are actively looking for an individual dressed in black, who is believed to have set off an explosive device at the site.
The Israel Center, overseen by a Christian group that seeks to bolster connections with Israel, regularly hosts lectures about the country and sells Israeli products.
This isn’t the first time the center has faced hostility; it has experienced previous acts of vandalism, including graffiti and nearby protests. However, director Frank van Oort expressed that this bombing marks a significant escalation in the threat level.
“Those who express dissatisfaction have the right to protest, which is acceptable. But this is an attack. We’ve never encountered anything like this before,” he stated.
In reaction to the incident, Nijkerk’s mayor, Tineto de Jonge-Luitenbeek, commented: “We extend our sympathies to the Christian community, on behalf of Israel and the residents here. It’s truly unfortunate that they have to endure such events. When I visited the Israel Center and talked to people there, I was struck by their strength.”
Mr. Tzvi Vapuni, Israel’s ambassador to the Netherlands, remarked: “First, Jews faced threats and violence in the Netherlands. Now it seems that Christians supporting Israel are also becoming targets.” He added, “This explosion at the Kristenen Voor Israel Center in Nijkerk is part of a worrying trend. These offenders must be apprehended and held accountable as a means of confronting those who aim to instill fear and promote hatred.”
This incident reflects a series of recent attacks on Jewish establishments in the Netherlands, including a fire at a Rotterdam synagogue and an explosion targeting a Jewish school in Amsterdam, suspected to be linked to escalating tensions from the situation in Iran.
