Nancy Travis Discusses Connection in New Lifetime Movie

Nancy Travis feels that people in America are experiencing a heightened sense of loneliness, which leads to a growing interest in stories of resilience. She stars in Lifetime’s “Rescued by Faith: The Story of Connie and Larry Van Oosten,” which recounts the harrowing tale of a couple kidnapped in 2017, held in a secret underground bunker, and targeted financially by their captors.

“People are feeling more isolated than ever,” she remarked, reflecting on the increasing demand for films that convey messages of hope.

“Community seems to be lacking in many lives,” Travis expressed. “The in-person connections, especially since COVID, have been diminished. A lot of folks are stuck at home in front of screens, but that’s not real human interaction. Right now, it seems like there’s a strong desire for connection and emotional experiences.”

She went on to note the financial difficulties many face today. “Finding a job is tough for a lot of people,” she mentioned. “It’s a challenging time, and I believe many feel there’s a lack of support around them. While the couple’s story is extreme, I think it showcases a more universal fear of potential disasters in our lives.”

“The message they wish to share is that you’re not alone, regardless of the hardships facing you,” Travis asserted. “Their Christian beliefs were a source of comfort for them, even suggesting that it aided their survival. They felt at peace knowing that they weren’t alone, even if the outcome was uncertain.”

Travis expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her family throughout her life. “I’m incredibly thankful for my family,” she noted. “The overarching theme of this film suggests that with faith, everything can work out, even when it seems mathematically impossible. That belief alleviates anxiety. While it doesn’t erase sadness, it is about doing your best in hard situations and finding solace in the effort itself.”

Reflecting on her time in Hollywood, she highlighted the camaraderie she felt among her “Last Man Standing” cast, which has remained strong even after the show concluded its run. “We experienced weddings, births, and losses together. My children’s bar mitzvah brought the cast together; we truly became part of each other’s lives,” she shared.

Now, Travis is eager to tell more relatable stories. “As an artist, my goal is to convey honesty. Whether it’s ‘Rescued by Faith’ or something else, I aim to create genuine moments that resonate, making people feel connected to their own experiences,” she concluded.
