Man Charged Following Stabbing at Planet Fitness in Pennsylvania

A man in Philadelphia is facing charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a gym employee multiple times at a Planet Fitness where he had been banned. The victim, whose condition is critical, is now hospitalized following the attack.

Davia Massey, 28, was arrested on Thursday right after the incident occurred at the gym in the Wyncote area of Cheltenham Township. According to local police, they received reports of a stabbing around 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the employee suffering from several stab wounds and immediately transported him to a trauma center.

The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Massey and the employee, which escalated. It’s worth noting that Massey had been barred from the gym prior to this event, though the reasons for his ban and the specifics of the altercation are unclear.

One gym-goer expressed shock at the violence, saying, “I can’t believe it. I feel like I’m in a dream right now.” Another person mentioned that the staff is always kind, adding, “It gives me energy,” highlighting the unexpected nature of this event.

Police apprehended Massey a short distance away and he now faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, and possession of criminal implements.

Massey is currently held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail as authorities continue their investigation. As of now, no further information has been shared regarding the motive behind the attack or details about what led to the confrontation.
