Driver Crashes into Parade in Louisiana, Multiple Injuries Reported
A driver crashed into a parade in Iberia Parish, Louisiana on Saturday afternoon, resulting in injuries to several people.
This unsettling event unfolded during Laos’ New Year festival when 57-year-old Todd Landry, suspected of being under the influence, was arrested following the incident. Reports indicate that he drove into the crowd.
Injured individuals were taken to nearby hospitals, some sustaining serious injuries. According to a statement from Louisiana State Police (LSP), the crash occurred near the intersection of Savannakhet and Melancon streets in Broussard, leading to Landry’s arrest and subsequent charges.
While participating in a New Year’s parade in Laos, Landry’s vehicle struck several pedestrians. Signs of impairment were noted during the investigation, and a breath sample later indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.137g%. He now faces charges for impaired driving (first offense), 18 counts of first-degree manslaughter, careless driving, and having an open container.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is managing the investigation, which is still ongoing, with more information expected to be released soon.
A young witness at the scene described the moment, saying, “The car looked kind of nice, so I thought he was just joining the parade. But then he got closer, revved his engine, and swerved past everyone. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
The Sheriff’s Office mentioned in a social media update that initial findings suggest the incident was not intentional. Further details will be shared as they come to light.
LSP is encouraging anyone with information—such as photos or videos—to reach out to authorities.
In response to the crash, the Louisiana Lao New Year Festival expressed sadness about the incident and announced the cancellation of their evening music program. They expressed condolences and noted that if safety is restored, they would continue with religious ceremonies and keep market stalls open.
