Mother, teenager, and infant die in Easter egg hunt accident

Tragic Incident During Easter Egg Hunt in Germany

On Sunday morning, a tragic event unfolded in Germany as a powerful gust of wind caused a tree to topple during an Easter egg hunt, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including a 10-month-old baby girl.

Approximately 50 attendees from a nearby facility for mothers, pregnant women, and young children were involved in the festivities in a wooded area near Suttleholm when the incident occurred around 11 a.m. According to police reports, a 100-foot tree fell on participants, trapping four people beneath it.

Emergency responders arrived quickly to the scene, treating a 21-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, both of whom tragically died on-site. The woman’s infant daughter succumbed to her injuries later at the hospital. An 18-year-old woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a medical facility for treatment.

This residential facility is part of a state-funded child welfare program designed to support pregnant women and newborns in need, as noted on its website. Following the devastating event, grief counselors were dispatched to assist those affected.

Witnesses reported seeing scattered Easter eggs on the ground, juxtaposed with the somber sight of victims covered in white sheets. Authorities indicated that Germany’s weather service had issued warnings for strong winds in the area.

Officials from Schleswig-Holstein expressed their profound sorrow over the incident. In a joint statement, Governor Daniel Günter, Interior Minister Magdalena Finke, and Minister of Youth and Families Aminata Touré conveyed their condolences: “Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased, the injured, and everyone who experienced this awful event.”
