Portnoy’s Concerns About Clark and Bosco
Dave Portnoy appears to be feeling a bit of relief following a recent spat involving Caitlin Clark. He expressed frustration during a chat on “Barstool Live,” which stemmed from a communication breakdown between Clark and one of his employees, Rico Bosco. It seems Clark had blocked Bosco, apparently after an awkward conversation Portnoy had with her boyfriend’s brother.
Portnoy, a known supporter of Clark, feared that he might have lost contact with her when his messages displayed as “green.” Fortunately, he received a response from her on Monday, easing his concerns.
He recounted, “I was just testing to see if you were blocked,” during a segment on FS1’s “Wake Up Barstool.” Clark replied, jokingly with a mix of emojis, and clarified that she might have missed his last message while she was on a plane.
Interestingly, Bosco had previously reassured Portnoy that he would make things right with Clark. Yet, he was seen celebrating after revelations from Portnoy surfaced during the show.
Portnoy believed that the blocking incident was triggered during a phone call when Bosco mistakenly put McCaffery, Clark’s boyfriend’s brother, on the line without Portnoy knowing who he was. The tension escalated when McCaffery confronted Portnoy about some comments made regarding his father, Fran McCaffery, who previously coached Iowa basketball.
Portnoy mentioned that Clark was quite upset about the situation, especially since she hadn’t received updates from him regarding a pizza review she was supposed to film in Indianapolis.
After Iowa’s impressive defeat of top-seeded Florida, Portnoy found himself commenting on McCaffery, voicing his belief that the decision to fire Fran McCaffery was hasty. He argued that it took Iowa far too long to advance compared to prior years under his leadership.
In the end, Iowa suffered a loss to Illinois in the Elite Eight. On a different note, Clark is gearing up for her third season in the WNBA, with the Fever set to face the Dallas Wings in their opener on May 9.
