Former Energy Secretary criticizes Biden for damaging the energy system

Energy Secretary Chris Wright criticized the Biden administration, claiming it is steering the energy system “into a ditch” and exhausting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve due to extensive subsidies for unreliable energy sources like solar power. In a recent podcast appearance with his wife Liz, he expressed concerns about the former president’s energy policies, suggesting they have significant repercussions nationwide.

“If you view energy incorrectly, you’re essentially setting society up for destruction,” he commented. He further noted that the administration’s approach to energy has led to costly consequences, insisting that while some changes were made in time to mitigate severe damage, a lot of money has been squandered. He emphasized the need to restore the energy infrastructure in the Gulf, warning that continued neglect could lead to elevated energy prices over prolonged periods.

Wright dismissed the idea that the U.S. is falling behind other nations like China in solar energy, claiming that a total shutdown of solar power wouldn’t significantly impact the country. “If every solar panel vanished overnight, nobody would even notice. We’re currently facing a critical loss of 10% in global oil production. This is a real crisis,” he elaborated, adding that the loss of solar energy would only represent a 1.2% decrease in global energy.

Although a proponent of solar power, Wright opposed subsidizing unreliable energy sources that inflate electricity costs. He believes nuclear energy has a promising future but thinks it’s unfairly criticized by climate advocacy groups. “It’s easier to instill fear than to offer comfort,” he pointed out. “The environmental sector has shifted towards being a fear-driven industry, capitalizing on concerns about nuclear energy and climate change, often exaggerating the risks.” He criticized the Biden administration for depleting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to reduce gas prices, particularly with the aim of performing well in the 2022 midterm elections, contrasting this with the Trump administration’s efforts to replenish reserves.

Wright asserted that by the end of next year, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will contain more oil than when President Trump assumed office. He remarked that the Biden office has not yet responded to inquiries from media outlets.

Since his appointment as energy secretary, Wright has been vocal against the Biden administration. In May, he claimed that Alaska is under more energy production restrictions than countries like North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela combined, suggesting that the state has been significantly hindered in tapping into its natural resources.
