Arizona Democrat seeks impeachment of Hegseth for alleged war crimes

Impeachment Articles Planned Against Army Secretary

A Democratic representative, whose parents fled the regime of Ruhollah Khomeini years ago, announced on Monday his intention to introduce articles of impeachment against Army Secretary Pete Hegseth, citing alleged war crimes in the ongoing conflict.

Arizona Rep. Yasamin Ansari expressed mixed feelings to the New York Times upon learning that American and Israeli forces had successfully removed Khamenei in February; she felt both hopeful and anxious at the same time.

However, her criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the situation has intensified, particularly regarding President Trump’s Easter message to Iran’s leadership, urging them to “open the damn Strait” by a certain deadline or face attacks on vital infrastructure.

In a statement about her plans to impeach Hegseth, Ansari remarked, “Donald Trump’s outrageous remarks, including those on Easter Sunday, are pushing our nation into yet another devastating and endless war.”

She argues that Trump is jeopardizing peace and alleges violations of the Geneva Conventions, claiming he has already directed illegal actions that damage essential civilian facilities like schools and hospitals.

As the child of Iranian immigrants who escaped this regime, Ansari asserted, “I know that this cannot continue.” Reports indicate her father, a medical student in the U.S. during the Iranian revolution, could not return home, while her mother fled at 17 to avoid restrictions imposed on women.

Ansari plans to invoke the 25th Amendment to seek Trump’s removal and intends to file the impeachment complaint against Hegseth “next week.”

She claimed that the Pentagon chief has consistently violated his constitutional duties, noting that only Congress has the authority to declare war, not a president acting unilaterally.

Describing Hegseth’s actions as reckless, she cited incidents like the bombing of a girls’ school in Iran and the targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure as justifications for impeachment.

Recently, Hegseth and Trump coordinated efforts to rescue aviators shot down by Iranian forces, with Trump hinting at a significant military operation at a White House press briefing.

When asked for a comment, Pentagon spokesperson Kingsley Wilson dismissed Ansari, suggesting she is simply trying to attract attention amid ongoing military operations. He also praised the two recent successful rescue missions and criticized the move to impeach Hegseth.

“Secretary Hegseth will keep defending our country and confront Iran’s extremist regime,” Wilson stated. He characterized the impeachment effort as a distraction from the successes being achieved by the Army.

Fox News Digital has contacted the White House for further comment.
