Swalwell Campaign Responds to Allegations
California gubernatorial candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell’s campaign has publicly addressed allegations brought forth by former Capitol Hill staffer Cheyenne Hunt, firmly denying any claims of sexual misconduct involving past staffers and interns.
Micah Beasley, Swalwell’s spokesperson, described the accusations as “false and outrageous,” suggesting they stem from opposition groups aligned with “MAGA conspiracy theorists,” given Swalwell’s prominence as a front-runner in the upcoming election.
Hunt, who leads a politically active youth group called Gen-Z for Change, raised allegations last week, stating that Swalwell had made inappropriate advances toward female staff. She asserted that the Democratic candidate has a past marked by predatory behavior and shared private messages she received, implying that Swalwell has a pattern of sleeping with interns and requiring them to sign non-disclosure agreements.
In her statements, Hunt claimed she has been in contact with multiple women who have similar experiences. However, she didn’t identify these individuals or the additional group she referenced. Democratic strategist Babik Ratia has also weighed in, urging that these allegations be taken seriously.
Swalwell’s spokesperson counters this narrative, highlighting that in over a decade of service, no one in Swalwell’s office has ever signed a non-disclosure agreement or filed an ethics complaint against him. In the face of Hunt’s statements, Beasley emphasized their lack of foundation.
Hunt responded to the criticisms, expressing that it is “morally repugnant” to attack those sharing their experiences. She emphasized the importance of these women being heard and conveyed that her team is collaborating with legal professionals and journalists to ensure their stories are accurately represented.
As the primary elections approach, with mail-in voting beginning on May 4th and the primary set for June 2nd, Swalwell’s campaign has not engaged further with media inquiries.
