Army Secretary Announces Victory in War with Iran
On Wednesday, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth described what he referred to as “a resounding victory” against Iran, asserting that the Iranian regime “begged” for a ceasefire after completely dismantling its missile capabilities.
At a press conference held at the Pentagon, he proclaimed, “Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming success on the battlefield. This was a significant military achievement for us.” Hegseth emphasized, “Epic Fury devastated the Iranian military, leaving it unable to function for years.”
His declarations followed President Trump easing threats of a full-scale assault on Iran just hours before a deadline he had imposed for the Iranian government to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Hegseth continued, “Iran has, frankly, pleaded for this ceasefire.” He added that, in collaboration with Israeli allies, U.S. forces executed all planned objectives effectively and punctually.
Pointing to extensive damage, Hegseth claimed Iran’s missile program was now “functionally destroyed,” noting the inability of Iran to manufacture missiles, rockets, or launchers. He asserted, “Iran’s navy rests at the bottom of the sea,” and detailed how their air force had been obliterated, stating, “We dominate their skies.” According to him, Iran no longer possesses effective air defenses.
He further noted that remnants of Iran’s military are now “hidden in underground bunkers” but added that their remaining capacity to fire weapons is severely compromised due to a lack of coordination. “They might still be able to launch attacks, but doing so would be quite unwise,” Hegseth remarked.
In terms of operational outcomes, he indicated that U.S. forces would be withdrawing, having accomplished their mission. “The Department of the Army has fulfilled its responsibilities thus far,” he noted.
Hegseth also mentioned that President Trump had negotiated a ceasefire the prior day, stating, “We stand ready to monitor compliance with all reasonable requirements.” He complimented Trump, saying, “No one makes better deals than President Trump,” insisting that no leader has shown the resolve of this commander-in-chief, attributing this moment to his leadership.
