Fraud Investigation in South Florida HOA
A property manager in South Florida is under suspicion for allegedly draining hundreds of thousands from a homeowners association (HOA) account and vanishing after splurging on things like plastic surgery, vacations, and shopping, according to local police.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Alexandra Delacaridad Gonzalez, linked to claims of fraud tied to the HOA accounts she oversaw during her time at Avantgarde Property Management.
She faces serious charges: two counts of fraud exceeding $50,000, two counts of grand larceny, 61 counts of using a false instrument, and 59 counts of embezzlement. Her bond is set at an impressive $1.35 million.
Investigators say Gonzalez managed to hide the alleged theft by writing checks to herself from the HOA account over time, fabricating invoices, and manipulating bookkeeping records. There’s also an allegation that she forged the signature of the authorized account holder.
Records obtained reveal that the money, unfortunately, went to cover personal expenses like shopping sprees, cosmetic procedures, and vacations.
The HOA reportedly noticed the irregularities and brought it to the authorities’ attention. The victims identified include the Whitemarsh Preserve Homeowners Association and Hutchinson Island Dunes.
Law enforcement believes Gonzalez may currently be in the Miramar or Vero Beach regions.
If anyone has information on her whereabouts or suspects their HOA might have been similarly affected, they’re encouraged to reach out to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
