New Jersey Teacher Arrested Over Allegations of Sexual Relationship with Student

A 26-year-old chemistry teacher from New Jersey has been arrested after a female student accused him of engaging in sexual activity with her at his apartment, according to prosecutors.

Jason Howe, who also coached multiple girls’ teams at Sterling High School located in Camden County, was taken into custody on Friday following the alarming claims.

The student, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old, reportedly approached local authorities to reveal the alleged relationship with her teacher, as stated by officials in Camden County.

Investigators found that, at some point last month, Howe and the student reportedly had sexual intercourse at Runmead’s apartment, the prosecutor’s office explained in a statement.

Howe, who also had been involved in coaching cross country, women’s track and field, and men’s basketball, is facing charges that include sexual assault and endangering a child’s welfare. These charges carry a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

Interestingly, Howe had just recently graduated from the same school, starting his teaching career there in 2021.

In a brief intro video, he reportedly expressed his enthusiasm for teaching, stating, “I really love working with students.”

Howe’s teaching approach focused on keeping students engaged and active, ensuring they weren’t just sitting for long periods. This dynamic style had earned him praise among students, making his arrest feel particularly shocking.

“He was a great teacher,” remarked senior Nate Schwartz, expressing disbelief when he learned of the incidents. “I never expected him to do something like this.” Another senior, Nick Gallucci, added, “It was very sad.”

The school superintendent mentioned that the district was equally surprised by the charges and expressed a commitment to cooperating with law enforcement while working to support students and maintain a safe learning environment.

However, one parent claimed there was an unsettling culture at Sterling High School, implying a broader issue, although details were not provided.

“I wasn’t surprised. There’s kind of a culture around Sterling High School,” stated the parent, leaving readers curious about what they might have meant.

Currently, the only identified victim in this case is the accuser, as prosecutors have indicated they would pursue further investigations if other allegations arise.

Howe has been banned from the school premises and is expected in court next week.
