Melania Trump Addresses Epstein After Months of Silence
WASHINGTON — First Lady Melania Trump surprised many by speaking out about Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday, prompting questions about her sudden readiness to address the matter after a long period of silence.
In her statement, she declared, “I am not a victim of Epstein. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump.”
According to aides, Melania felt compelled to respond now due to her frustration with ongoing “lies” regarding her supposed connection with the convicted sex offender.
Senior adviser Mark Beckman relayed her sentiments, emphasizing, “First Lady Melania Trump is speaking now because enough is enough. The lies must stop. It’s time for the public and the media to focus on her incredible accomplishments as First Lady, the lives she positively impacted, and her commitment to our nation.”
Throughout her time in the role, Melania has prioritized initiatives like Be Best, which focuses on children and technology, as well as advocacy for foster youth.
Her unexpected comments led to speculation about a potential forthcoming story linking her to Epstein, especially given past media interest in the relationship between him and former President Trump.
Interestingly, Melania had refrained from discussing Epstein publicly until now. She even avoided responding to a question about Ghislaine Maxwell, a long-time associate of Epstein, at an event earlier this year.
Melania is known for her strategic approach and tends to operate purposefully. Historical images show the Trumps mingling with Epstein and Maxwell at various events, including a gathering at Mar-a-Lago in February 2000. However, their relationship reportedly soured around early 2001, and Epstein did not attend the Trumps’ wedding in 2005.
In her statement on Thursday, Melania acknowledged being in the same “social circle” as Epstein but maintained her ignorance regarding his criminal activities and denied ever visiting his notorious island.
President Trump expressed surprise at his wife’s public remarks, stating he was unaware she would discuss the issue until he saw her on camera. The White House had announced her appearance less than 24 hours prior.
Beckman had suggested Melania’s statement would be “significant,” yet did not indicate it would focus on Epstein.
There are ongoing speculations regarding the timing of her comments alongside a lawsuit involving author Michael Wolff, who has claimed Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump in the ’90s—a statement both Trump and Melania dispute.
During a podcast, Wolff’s remarks prompted Melania to seek a correction and apology from The Daily Beast. She had threatened legal action against him, but before she could proceed, Wolff filed a suit against her, suggesting it could impact Trump’s presidency.
Melania has worked diligently to distance herself from Epstein, having initiated multiple lawsuits and taking legal action against several parties, including her former stepson, Hunter Biden.
In her recent declaration, she stated, “The lies that link me to the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein must end today. Those who lie about me lack ethical standards, humility, and respect. I do not oppose their ignorance; rather, I reject their spiteful attempts to defame me.”
She asserted her legal team had successfully combated these falsehoods and noted recent retractions from publishing entities and political figures.
Her remarks unexpectedly revived interest in the Epstein case, especially with the backdrop of heightened media focus on the ongoing conflicts overseas.
Around the same time, a visit from King Charles III of England was also drawing attention. Democratic Representative Ro Khanna had suggested the king meet with Epstein’s victims, an invitation that was declined to avoid influencing any ongoing investigations.
When asked if she planned to meet with the victims, Melania opted not to respond, leaving her intentions somewhat ambiguous.
