Neighbor Intervenes in Domestic Dispute Shooting
A man in Washington state was fatally shot by his neighbor after he reportedly opened fire on two women during a domestic altercation. The incident, which began as a family dispute, escalated and spilled into a nearby driveway, prompting police intervention.
According to the Puyallup Police Department, officers arrived on the scene around 9:10 a.m. on April 2. They allege that 47-year-old Arnino Guanlao fatally shot two adult female relatives following a heated argument. One of the victims, identified as 23-year-old Christian Lyle Macapagal Maningat, died on-site, while another woman was rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries.
A neighbor, who heard the chaos unfold, stepped outside and fatally shot Guanlao. The specifics of the altercation are still unclear and are currently being investigated, including the circumstances surrounding the neighbor’s use of force.
Washington law permits individuals to use force in defense of themselves or others if they believe it is necessary. However, deadly force is only deemed appropriate when there is an imminent threat of serious injury or death, according to police. Captain Kevin Gill of the PPD stated that they are still piecing together the events that led to the shooting.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with gunfire alarming nearby residents. One neighbor, Michelle Winegarden-Bandes, recounted a distressing moment where they noticed a victim on the ground, struggling to breathe but still alive. The emotional weight of the event has left many residents shaken, as they never expected such violence in their neighborhood.
As investigations continue, law enforcement officials have been interviewing witnesses, many of whom have been deeply affected by the incident. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist the victims’ families with funeral costs, medical bills, and basic living expenses, highlighting the sudden shift in their lives due to the violence. The fundraiser has seen considerable support, raising nearly $19,000 as the family grapples with their loss and the ongoing hospital care for the surviving daughter.
The investigation remains active, with authorities looking into the initial conflict that led to this tragic event. Detective units from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Metro City Crimes Unit continue to work on sorting out the details, aiming to provide clarity amidst the devastation caused by this incident.
