University of Michigan’s Ambitious Plans Following National Championship Victory
The University of Michigan is aiming even higher after clinching the national title.
In a significant move, the Wolverines have reached an agreement to keep star point guard Elliott Cado for his senior year. Reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, this addition comes at an exciting time for the team.
Cado, who transferred to Michigan from North Carolina last season, played a pivotal role, starting all 40 games and averaging 10.5 points and 5.9 assists. His contributions were undeniable.
The West Orange, N.J. native enjoyed a standout performance throughout March Madness, registering at least seven assists in every game except one, and was named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Valuable Player. It’s quite an achievement, really.
In the championship game, he scored a game-high 19 points, helping secure Michigan’s victory with a score of 69-63 against UConn.
After celebrating the win, Cado expressed his emotions, saying, “Man, it means the world to me. I’m very proud of where I come from. Last year I was really down on myself and a lot of people doubted me. But I’m very proud that I was able to say I was the Most Valuable Player and at the same time win the national championship.”
Alongside retaining Cado, the Wolverines have also made a noteworthy addition by acquiring JP Estrella from the transfer portal. Estrella, a talented big man, spent the past three seasons at Tennessee.
Estrella told ESPN about his commitment to Michigan, making this his first significant move since the championship win. During the previous season, he averaged 10 points and 5.4 rebounds in about 18 minutes, often coming off the bench. His experience should provide valuable depth.
Interestingly, Estrella’s Volunteers were eliminated by Michigan in the Elite Eight during the last tournament, which adds a layer of connection now.
Starting his next chapter at Michigan, Estrella possesses two years of NCAA eligibility left. He should bring a strong rebounding presence, having finished second in the SEC for offensive rebounding percentage at 17.3 percent.
Cado has openly supported Estrella’s transfer. He commented on ESPN’s Instagram, saying, “I’m telling you,” which hints at the excitement that’s brewing for the upcoming season.
