Michael J. Fox Responds to CNN’s Mistaken Obituary

This week, CNN found itself in hot water after mistakenly releasing a draft obituary that claimed Michael J. Fox had passed away. The beloved actor, known for his role in Back to the Future, was quick to respond, showcasing his characteristic humor despite the gaffe.

The incident began late Wednesday when a video and article titled, “In memory of the life of actor Michael J. Fox,” appeared on CNN’s digital platform. It’s not unusual for media outlets to prepare obituaries in advance, but the segment was accidentally scheduled for live broadcast, leading to widespread panic among fans and a flurry of speculation about Fox’s health, particularly since he is 64.

However, Fox didn’t hesitate to set the record straight. He took to his verified social media account on Thursday, injecting humor into the situation by asking his followers how one should respond when they see their death reported on television or online. His post quickly became popular, complete with a satirical poll featuring options like switching to far-left news organizations or pouring boiling water on his knees to see how it felt.

In a light-hearted twist, he mentioned that when he first heard the news, he thought the world was ending, only to realize later, “It’s just me and I’m okay.”

His representative confirmed that Fox is “doing well” and remains active, further reinforcing that he is indeed alive. Just a day before the incident, he was in high spirits at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, where he participated in a panel discussion for the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” showcasing his ongoing commitment to his career.

In the show, Fox stars as a character who is a friend to Harrison Ford’s role, mirroring his own real-life experience with Parkinson’s disease. While at the event, he was seen enjoying himself with co-stars and engaging in interviews, showcasing a stark contrast to the somber tone of the erroneous CNN report.

In light of the error, CNN quickly took down the content from its website and social media. A spokesperson later apologized to Fox and his family, attributing the mistake to a technical mishap involving the unintended release of a pre-prepared media package.

“The package was published in error. We have removed it from our platform and apologize to Michael J. Fox and his family,” a CNN spokesperson stated.

Although the incident sparked temporary concern, it also highlighted the public’s enduring support for Fox. Ever since his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1991, he has transitioned from a movie star to a prominent advocate for medical research, and, as indicated by recent responses, he shows no signs of slowing down, despite the premature headlines.
