Political Dynamics in Eric Swalwell’s Gubernatorial Campaign
During a recent episode of CNN’s “The Story Is,” Elias Davai, an attorney for California gubernatorial candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell, discussed the withdrawal of support from some of Swalwell’s allies. Davai speculated about a potential political maneuver, suggesting that Democrats might be consolidating their votes to ensure their preferred candidate advances in the primary.
Host Erex Michelson highlighted that a number of Swalwell’s former supporters, including prominent figures like Sen. Adam Schiff, are now advising him to reconsider his campaign. “Is Eric Swalwell still in the race for governor?” Michelson asked.
Davai confirmed Swalwell’s commitment to continue his campaign, adding, “The fact that such a number of people have shifted their support makes me think there’s something more strategic at play here regarding why Democrats are tightening their ranks for the primary.” He noted his anticipation of further developments on this front.
Michelson countered, expressing confusion. “It doesn’t add up. These are not just opponents; they are his closest allies in Congress. For example, Sen. Ruben Gallego, who is also the campaign chairman, along with others who actively promoted him, are now publicly stating their doubts. It’s perplexing—why would they claim to believe women instead of him? Isn’t he considering the advice of his closest friends in Congress?”
Davai responded, emphasizing that everyone has the right to make their own decisions. “This situation illustrates a tendency to jump to conclusions. There’s a lack of evidence backing these claims, yet people seem eager to make judgments. Ultimately, it’s their choice.”
