Boycott Calls Target Popular Taco Chain Over CEO’s Support for Trump

Activists in Wake are urging people to boycott Roberto’s Taco Shop, a well-known taco chain originating from San Diego, due to its CEO’s support for President Trump.

Reynaldo Robredo, the CEO, has faced backlash after a TikTok user alleged that he aligns with the MAGA movement. Videos posted online have highlighted social media interactions linked to Robredo, including posts on Facebook.

This TikTok clip has gained quite a bit of traction, racking up nearly 80,000 views and numerous comments, which may have spurred the removal of some Facebook pages tied to Robredo.

One user questioned, “Has this CEO forgotten that all of his restaurants are based on Mexican food? He wouldn’t have been able to come to Mexico without the immigrants currently affected by the government he supports.”

Back in 2020, Robredo participated in a “Latinx for Trump” roundtable, where he expressed his admiration for the president.

He stated, “We love the work you’re doing. We love what you’ve done for us,” referring to their repeated meetings.

Roberto’s Taco Shop was established in 1964 by Robredo’s parents in San Diego, starting after running a tortilla factory. It’s now recognized as one of the leading taco chains in the area and is often credited with creating the California burrito.

The chain has strong connections in California and also boasts many franchise locations in Texas and Nevada, particularly in Las Vegas and Reno.

Calls for a boycott have extended beyond TikTok, with a Facebook group noting, “Did you know that Roberto’s Taco Shop CEO Reynaldo Robredo is a huge MAGA fan and supports ICE? Looks like he can’t take our jobs anymore!”

In response to the growing unrest, the Nevada branch of the company stated on Instagram that individual franchise owners operate independently.

The statement emphasized, “Roberto’s Taco Shop is proud to be a Latino-owned and operated franchise serving Nevada’s diverse communities. While our CEO may have personal political beliefs, it’s essential to remember that each of our 49 franchisees operates their stores independently.”

Despite the anger, opinions online appear divided. One TikTok commenter mentioned, “Nah, not my drunken food,” while another shared, “I was going to go to a local store but now I’ve decided against it. I’ll continue to support small local spots. Thank you.”

Some users cautioned against lumping the entire chain in with Robredo’s views, pointing out that it’s a franchise model. One user wrote, “Just because the CEO thinks a certain way, that shouldn’t affect the families who invested in the franchise.”

Not all feedback was negative, however. One Facebook user remarked, “I knew there was a reason I loved Roberto.”

The California Post reached out to the company for comments but did not receive a response before publication.
