A lively night at Coachella took a shocking turn when a heavy light fixture fell onto the crowd, striking at least one woman in the head and causing her to bleed. Reports indicate that there was considerable blood at the scene.
This unsettling event occurred shortly after 8 PM on Friday while DJ John Summitt was performing on the well-known Do Lab stage. Eyewitnesses described how a piece of equipment suddenly fell from above.
Joey Fleshur, who was a few rows back with friends, recounted that the falling equipment struck a woman running in front of him, resulting in a deep cut on her head.
“There were bloodstains all over the lights and the ground,” he explained.
As panic ensued, nearby concert-goers began waving lights to signal for medical assistance.
Fleshur mentioned that three people quickly assisted the injured woman, moving her through the crowd to get help.
After the incident, he captured footage of the fallen equipment lying beneath Do Lab’s distinctive mushroom-like structure.
He and others attempted to move the heavy object but found it too cumbersome for just one person. He decided to document the scene to have a record of what transpired.
“This is not good,” he remarked. “Coachella, what’s going on?”
A video on TikTok showed a security guard informing attendees that the stage was temporarily closed due to an injury from a falling object.
Weather conditions may have played a role in this incident. Strong winds swept through the venue on that day, leading to confusion.
“The wind picked up quite suddenly,” Fleshur noted, mentioning that the gusts intensified during Summitt’s performance.
The situation impacted other performances, too. Producer Zigits, who was set to follow Summitt, later reported on Instagram that their set had been cut short.
When Fleshur returned later in the evening for another act, he found the area cordoned off. “It felt like they were marking it like a crime scene,” he said.
Indeed, the adverse weather had already caused adjustments in the lineup. Electronic artist Anyma had to cancel a late-night performance, and there were reports of canopies being blown away from campsites.
