New Initiative Pushes for Voter ID Legislation
As the SAVE America Act begins to make its way through Congress, conservative nonprofit groups are gearing up for a $5 million advertising campaign aimed at urging the Senate to adopt voter ID laws.
Restoration of America (ROA) announced that the campaign kicks off Monday with a hefty $3.1 million allocated for national television ads, along with a digital strategy targeting key battleground states.
Citing polls indicating that 83% of Americans favor requiring photo ID for voting, the group asserts that this stance is “overwhelmingly supported” by the public.
This initiative coincides with indications from Senate Republicans that they may move forward on significant legislative items through reconciliation, potentially bypassing Democratic opposition.
Legal Developments Regarding Voter ID
In a notable development, a judge appointed by former President Obama recently ruled that a voter ID law is not discriminatory, marking a victory for Republican efforts in this area.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, mentioned that the SAVE America Act’s components are likely to be incorporated into a larger legislative package, which he described as a preliminary step.
Senate Majority Leader John Barrasso of Wyoming also indicated that Republicans are ready to “go it alone” using reconciliation to meet a tight deadline set by President Trump, who hopes to have the bill proposed by June 1.
The campaign’s primary aim is to compel the Senate to take decisive action on the voter ID legislation.
Advertising Campaign Details
The highlight of the campaign is a 30-second advertisement titled “Save America,” which will be broadcast on various national news programs across the political spectrum.
In the ad, the message asserts, “As Americans, we are fair and logical,” underscoring the 83% support for requiring photo ID to vote, while also stating that such measures are common practice in other regions.
The advertisement criticizes the current political climate: “Democrats oppose voter ID for no coherent reason. Republicans support it but aren’t taking action. What are they waiting for?”
It concludes with a clear call to action, urging viewers to contact their U.S. senators and push for the passage of the American Rescue Act.
Doug Tuax, the founder and CEO of ROA, emphasized the campaign’s goal is to restore confidence in electoral processes. “There’s nothing more critical right now than reinstating faith in elections,” he remarked, adding that citizens shouldn’t have doubts about the integrity and fairness of elections.
Restoration of America describes itself as a coalition of conservative organizations focused on policy and election-related issues. The ads are set to launch when senators return to their home states, effectively aiming to reach them directly during this period.
