McIlroy Celebrates Second Masters Win Amid Presidential Praise
Rory McIlroy has once again left a mark on the golfing world, securing his second straight Masters title. After an intense finish at Augusta on Sunday, where he clinched victory by just one stroke, President Trump took to Truth Social to offer his congratulations.
“Congrats to Rory McIlroy for winning another incredible Masters championship!” Trump shared online. He noted McIlroy’s exceptional performance under pressure, something many people might find daunting. As the years roll on, McIlroy’s status as a legend only seems to grow. Trump expressed excitement about seeing him compete in two weeks at Doral, adding that today’s pro golfers are truly remarkable and deserving of pride for their performances during the Masters.
Finishing at 11 under par, McIlroy fended off a strong challenge from Scotty Scheffler during the final round. This win marks him as the third golfer to successfully defend his Masters title, joining the ranks of legends like Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods, who last achieved this feat in 2002.
Facing a tight moment on the 18th hole, where he hit a shot that got stuck behind a tree, McIlroy managed to avoid disaster. Scheffler, who played at 4-under that day, nearly missed a birdie putt on No. 17, thus eliminating any hopes for a playoff.
After the win, an emotional McIlroy shared the moment with his wife, Erica Stoll, and embraced his daughter, Poppy, alongside his parents.
Looking ahead, McIlroy is set to compete in the Cadillac Championship starting April 30 at Trump National Doral in Miami.
But golf wasn’t the only sport on Trump’s radar this weekend. The President also attended UFC 327 at Miami’s Caseya Center, arriving with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UFC CEO Dana White to enjoy the fights.
