Car Crash Involving NFL Prospect Reuben Bain Jr. Results in Fatality
Reuben Bain Jr., a defensive end at the University of Miami and anticipated top-10 pick for the upcoming NFL Draft, was reportedly involved in a car accident in 2024 that led to the death of a passenger from injuries sustained in the incident, per a recent report.
Documents revealed that Bain received a citation for careless driving following the crash, which took place on March 17, 2024, around 4 a.m. on northbound Interstate 95 in Miami.
The accident report indicates that Bain was driving a 2021 Land Rover SUV with two passengers, including fellow Miami teammates Nijalik Kelly and Wesley Bissainthe. A 22-year-old woman, Destiny Betts from Georgia, was also in the vehicle. It is alleged that Bain’s SUV rear-ended another car, subsequently hitting a concrete barrier, then bouncing off to strike another barrier before finally coming to rest on the highway’s shoulder.
Reports indicate that Betts was transported to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where she remained in a coma for approximately three months before succumbing to her injuries on June 13, 2024.
Initially cited for the incident, Bain’s charges were reported to have been dropped before Betts’ passing. The accident report also mentioned that there were no field sobriety tests conducted at the scene.
During the 2025 season with the Hurricanes, Bain showcased impressive statistics, contributing 9.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, and five quarterback tackles. He led the nation in quarterback pressure, helping Miami reach the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
