NFL Draft: A Look at Quarterback Picks
Quarterbacks always draw the spotlight during the NFL draft, right? This year’s class is regarded as relatively weak, yet, it’s still interesting to see how things play out.
So, let’s dive into a mock draft focused on quarterbacks over seven rounds.
Round 1
1st Overall: Fernando Mendoza – Indiana to the Las Vegas Raiders
This feels like a no-brainer. The Raiders really need a franchise quarterback, and Mendoza certainly fits the bill as a top pick. Done deal.
Round 2
34th Overall: Ty Simpson – Alabama to the Arizona Cardinals
While Mendoza’s choice might take a while to play out, Simpson’s situation is different. There’s buzz he could go in the first round, but I think he’ll slip a bit. This pick could be significant for the Cardinals. He just needs to step up. If he doesn’t impress, they might be looking for options next year in a stronger quarterback class.
Round 3
87th Overall: Garrett Nussmeyer – LSU to the Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins hold four picks in the third round, and Nussmeyer seems like a solid match. Scouts see potential for him to develop as a starter. He definitely fits the mold for what Miami’s offensive setup, led by Bobby Slowik, is aiming for. Low risk for the Dolphins here.
99th Overall: Carson Beck – Miami to the Pittsburgh Steelers
Beck’s a bit unpredictable, but he could be a worthwhile gamble at this stage of the draft. It’s a good moment for the Steelers to use a compensatory pick on him. They have an eye on Will Howard, but adding another young quarterback to the roster could pay off in the long run.
Round 4
103rd Overall: Drew Aller – Penn State to the New York Jets
I kind of like this pick for the Jets. Aller has the typical size for an NFL quarterback, and he’s coming back from an injury. Since they don’t need to rush him, they can afford to wait. Even if it doesn’t pan out, the Jets will have options in the solid quarterback class of 2027.
107th Overall: Cole Payton – North Dakota State to the Cleveland Browns
Another year, another quarterback for the Browns. They’re still searching for a solution, and Payton has skills worth exploring. Just don’t throw him into the fire too quickly; patience might be rewarded.
109th Overall: Tyren Green – Arkansas to the Kansas City Chiefs
Green is a standout athlete and had a strong showing at the NFL Combine. He’s someone who could grow in the right environment. If the Chiefs can guide him well, they might have made a smart investment.
141st Overall: Luke Altmeyer – Illinois to the Houston Texans
Altmeyer shows promise, and many scouts believe he can carve out a place in the NFL over time. This could be a key developmental move for the Texans.
Round 5
152nd Overall: Cade Kravnik – Clemson to the Dallas Cowboys
Opinions are mixed on Kravnik. Some teams are optimistic, while others have concerns. Jerry Jones sees potential for him to eventually succeed the 33-year-old Dak Prescott. Could be an interesting late-round flier.
197th Overall: Beren Morton – Texas Tech to the Philadelphia Eagles
Morton seems to catch the Eagles’ interest, and acquiring him at this stage makes sense.
Round 6
220th Overall: Sawyer Robertson – Baylor to the Buffalo Bills
There’s potential for Robertson to develop with the right coaching. Joe Brady gets a promising player, and it’s a chance for Josh Allen to mentor someone.
229th Overall: Diego Pavia – Vanderbilt to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pavia’s journey begins alongside Baker Mayfield. One has to wonder how that dynamic will unfold.
