Yankees Struggling After Strong Start
The New York Yankees kicked off the 2026 season impressively, winning eight of their first ten games. However, things have taken a downturn since last Tuesday. They’ve recently lost a series to the Athletics and were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend.
Aaron Judge, a key player, noted the team’s offensive challenges following a 5-4 loss on Sunday. “We need to simplify some things at the plate,” he mentioned to reporters. It seems the team is trying to hit every pitch, leading them into unfavorable counts and situations. If they can refine their approach, looking for specific pitches and passing the baton to each other, they might improve their results.
Judge hasn’t been performing at his usual level. He’s previously won the American League MVP award three times in four years and even played for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Yet, so far this season, he’s batting just .218. He did manage a two-run home run against the Rays, but it comes after hitting only two times in ten at-bats in that game.
This series marked the Rays’ first three-game win over the Yankees since 2021. Reflecting on the games, Judge remarked that the team didn’t get enough hits when they really needed them. “We had one hit for most of the game. If our guys get walks and focus on hittable pitches, we’ll fare better,” he assessed.
Currently, New York’s record stands at 8-7, placing them tied for first in the American League East. They’re set to return home on Monday, starting a seven-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels before facing the Kansas City Royals.
