Tragic Accident in North Hollywood
An alarming incident occurred in North Hollywood on Sunday, where a suspected drunk driver hit and killed two pedestrians before crashing into a nearby home. The sequence of events was captured on video.
The driver, identified as Vidal Cruz Jr. from Pacoima, was taken into custody after the car struck three parked vehicles and a residence, causing significant damage.
This crash transpired around 2:25 a.m. on Colfax Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Cruz Jr., 31, reportedly ran into a man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s who were exiting a parked Toyota Camry.
Sadly, the man died at the scene, while the woman later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Video footage showed the driver colliding with a parked car in a driveway, mere feet from someone sleeping inside the home. Diego Rojas, who resides there, remarked on the driver’s lack of shock, saying, “He wasn’t as scared or shocked as he should have been. He was trying to get out of the car as if nothing had happened, but two people died.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has charged Cruz with two counts of murder, setting his bail at $4 million.
Walter Morales, another neighbor, expressed disbelief at the situation. “It’s really crazy. I just got that car and you’d think being at home would be the safest place to put your stuff,” he said. “But you never know when something bad is going to happen. I’m still dealing with it.”
