At Least 28 Shot in Chicago Over the Weekend
Over the weekend, at least 28 individuals were shot in Chicago, one of whom died, within the jurisdiction of Mayor Brandon Johnson.
The deadly incident occurred late Saturday night, around 11:45 p.m., on the 8000 block of South Morgan Street. It started after an argument between two groups. A 25-year-old woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Additionally, a 36-year-old man was also shot during the incident but was reported to be in good condition after his hospitalization.
A few hours later, around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, a woman opened fire at a group of men. Three men—aged 31, 37, and 38—were struck by gunfire. Tragically, the 37-year-old was reported to be in critical condition.
Recent reports indicate that gun violence is escalating in Chicago, especially as the city noted 105 homicides in the first week of April—up from 98 during the same time period in 2025.
Obtaining a gun legally for self-defense in Chicago involves navigating numerous regulations. Although Mayor Johnson has been an advocate for stricter gun control, his armed security detail reportedly costs taxpayers around $30 million annually, which raises some eyebrows.
