Artemis II pilot Victor Glover shares uplifting message with supporters

Upon returning to Earth, astronaut Victor Glover looked skyward. Over the weekend, he addressed a gathering of fans outside his home in Houston, Texas, excitedly welcoming him back from a significant space mission.

“Some of us haven’t really met anyone before. And you know what? That’s on us. So let’s choose this. Let’s do more of this. Let’s be neighbors,” he shared with the crowd, donning a royal blue NASA jumpsuit as he spoke from his driveway, which quickly caught attention online.

“I don’t know if you heard me, but God told us to love Him with all of who we are and to love our neighbor as ourselves,” he stated, earning thunderous applause and numerous “Amen!” responses from the audience.

As he wrapped up, Glover added, “I love you, and we love you.”

In another clip, Glover was seen waving from his car window, greeting a crowd that had come out with flags and requests for autographs. His home was adorned with red, white, and blue balloons, along with a large banner that read, “Welcome Home, Victor.” Captions on the videos expressed pride in his historic achievements.

At 49, Glover is among four astronauts who returned safely to Earth after an extraordinary ten-day voyage that marked a significant leap in space exploration, traveling farther than ever before.

During the mission, Artemis II reached an impressive altitude of 452,756 miles, surpassing the Apollo 13 record from over 50 years ago.

This mission marked the first close encounter with the moon since Apollo 17 departed in 1972, paving the way for future lunar exploration.

Glover, who made history as the first Black man to orbit the moon, also expressed gratitude to God during the mission. Speaking post-splashdown, he remarked, “Initially, I wanted to thank God publicly, and I still do. The enormity of what we witnessed and experienced is overwhelming.”

He extended gratitude to his family, stating, “I love you, but not just the five beautiful cocoa-skinned women over there,” referring to his wife and four daughters, “but everyone.”

Looking ahead, NASA plans to review the collected mission data before finalizing initiatives for Artemis III, which will involve another lunar flight without landing. The agency anticipates a moon landing to occur in 2028 with Artemis IV.
