Baltimore Orioles Manager Involved in Scary Incident
During a recent game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albanaz experienced a frightening moment. In the fifth inning, he was struck on the left cheek by a line drive from shortstop Jeremiah Jackson.
After the incident, Albanaz left the game for evaluation by the team’s medical staff. Fortunately, he made a brief return when Jackson hit a grand slam, contributing to the Orioles’ 9-7 victory.
Donnie Ecker, the Orioles’ bench coach, shared that Albanaz was doing well but would undergo precautionary tests. Jackson expressed his concern upon seeing the manager hurt, mentioning the moment felt heavy for him.
“It was heartbreaking to see him in pain,” Jackson said. “But he seemed to bounce back, which was a relief.” The two shared a warm hug after Jackson’s home run, a gesture that Jackson found uplifting, remarking on how he never wants to cause injury to anyone, especially not Albanaz, whom he regarded highly.
It’s noteworthy to mention that this is Albanaz’s inaugural season managing the Orioles. He previously spent two years as the bench coach and assistant manager for the Cleveland Guardians.
With this win, the Orioles now stand at 9 wins and 7 losses, tying them for the top position in the American League East alongside the New York Yankees.
