Cruise line cautions guests about penalties for taking buffet food to their cabins

Cruise Lines Implement New Food Policies

Cruise operators are alerting passengers about a new rule: no more bringing buffet food back to cabins. There are warnings about potential fines for those who do so.

Recently, Costa Cruises communicated to its guests that a 60-euro (around $70) cleaning fee could be applied if they take food from the buffet to their rooms. The cruise line, which is part of Carnival Corporation, stated that ensuring guest safety and satisfaction is their primary focus.

In a note shared with passengers, the company pointed out that these regulations are in place as a precautionary measure to promote responsible dining behavior. “We aim to guarantee a high-quality and enjoyable experience for everyone on board,” a Costa Cruises spokesperson explained.

According to reports, only trained room service staff, who are well-versed in proper hygiene practices, are allowed to handle and deliver food to guest rooms. It was emphasized that meals need to be enjoyed in designated dining areas.

Feedback from travelers regarding this policy has varied, especially after discussions sparked on social media platforms. Some commenters expressed understanding, citing the importance of maintaining cleanliness and order, while others felt frustrated at the new restrictions.

“I totally get why they have rules; we don’t want to see messes in the hallways,” one passenger remarked, advocating for responsible behavior. Conversely, another commenter dismissed the fine, insisting they’d rather take their food back to their rooms than comply with the new policy.

Costa Cruises, based in Italy, offers voyages across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and South America. The recent changes have stirred conversations among passengers, with opinions ranging from understanding the need for hygiene to outright frustration with additional fees.

While some still enjoy the idea of taking dining experiences to more private spaces, others are wary of how these new policies might affect their overall cruising experience. It’s a mixed bag of reactions, reflecting the complexities of modern cruising.
