Travis Hunter responds to claims that he will play cornerback full-time.

Travis Hunter has knee surgery, concluding his rookie season with the Jaguars.

Travis Hunter’s Future Role Remains Unclear

Travis Hunter seems to have missed the latest updates about his expected position moving forward.

Earlier in the offseason, there were discussions suggesting that this two-way star, who was the second overall pick last year and claimed the Heisman Trophy in 2024, might shift from his previous role. The idea was for him to focus primarily on playing cornerback, with occasional appearances as a wide receiver.

Last Friday, this was reported by NFL Network.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars,” according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, “are expecting him to be a full-time corner and part-time receiver. When we spoke to teams last year, they recognized there was potential there and a solid production value.”

However, it seems Hunter disagreed and decided to address the situation himself. “Okay, who said this?” he posted on X earlier this week, which suggests he isn’t entirely on board with the plans.

Previously, he suffered a season-ending injury during practice leading up to Week 9. That season, he participated in 67% of the team’s offensive plays but only 36% on defense. Reports indicate he’s currently recovering well from a torn LCL.

Last year, in just seven games, Hunter recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he made 15 tackles along with three pass breakups. His standout performance came in the last game, where he caught eight passes for 104 yards and a touchdown in a 35-7 defeat against the Los Angeles Rams in London.

The Jaguars had a solid season, finishing 13-4 in the AFC South but were eliminated by the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card Game. Now, there are hopes that Hunter’s return can help push the team forward.

With Greg Newsome II, a starting cornerback from last season, now with the New York Giants, it appears that Hunter might be stepping into that starting role.

Jacksonville moved up from the fifth pick in the draft last year to select Hunter, which says a lot about the team’s confidence in his abilities.
