Gasoline prices in Los Angeles County dropped to an average of $5.985 per gallon on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive day of price declines, the longest streak since December 2025.
This current average reflects a 6.3-cent reduction from a week ago, which is certainly a relief for residents after a tough few weeks. However, it’s still 42.3 cents higher than mid-March and a significant $1.11 more than this time last year.
This recent decrease comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire earlier this month, which provided a temporary reprieve in the oil market after gasoline prices surged due to a U.S.-Israeli operation in Iran that started on February 28.
Meanwhile, the overall average in California also saw a slight drop to approximately $5.985, although prices in Orange County experienced a minor increase of six-tenths of a cent, bringing them to $5.903.
The national average dipped another 0.7 cents to $4.118. Still, Californians should exercise caution; this decline may not last long.
Patrick de Haan, who analyzes oil trends at GasBuddy, expressed concerns about increasing supply uncertainties as negotiations falter and the U.S. heads toward potentially blocking the Strait of Hormuz entirely.
Oil prices surged during Sunday night trading, and experts predict that gasoline prices could rise again this week as restrictions tighten. “Drivers should brace for more increases,” De Haan noted on Monday. “Moves toward a full blockade of the Strait of Hormuz heighten global supply worries and threaten further disruptions, pushing oil prices higher. Consequently, gas prices are expected to climb again soon, unless shipping resumes more effectively through the Strait.”
Where to find the cheapest gas prices in LA County right now
If you’re looking for the best deals, consider using the gas buddy app, which helps locate the lowest prices near you in real time. Some stations in LA County are currently hovering around the $5 mark as wholesale prices decrease.
Prices can fluctuate significantly across Southern California, with variations of 20 to 50 cents common. Independent and discount stations are often offering the best deals, and they tend to sell out quickly.
Here are some low-cost options in the LA area:
- Belli Brothers Station: 5329 S Baldwin Ave., Temple City, and 2749 N El Camino Real in San Clemente, where gas is priced at $4.99 per gallon.
- Costco at 17550 Castleton St. (membership required) offers regular gas at $5.09 per gallon.
- Stars & Stripes Travel Center in Santa Ana, with regular gasoline priced at $5.09, along with Sam’s Club in Fountain Valley and 76 Bell locations.
- Costco gas station in Huntington Beach (members only) priced at $5.12 per gallon.
- Sinclair in Fullerton offers gas at $5.17 per gallon.
Many drivers in California have faced steep prices recently, with some stations charging over $6 per gallon due to the initial conflict in Iran.
This six-day decline is the most significant in recent months, but with a potential lockdown in the Middle East, experts suggest that prices could spike again soon. If you’re in LA or anywhere in Southern California, it might be wise to fill up now. By the end of the week, you might find yourself facing another surge in prices that stings your wallet.
