DoorDash Faces Backlash Over Trump Publicity Stunt
DoorDash, the food delivery app, encountered significant criticism on Monday due to its marketing stunt featuring President Donald Trump at the White House.
During the event, Trump was seen accepting a delivery from McDonald’s, which a DoorDash driver brought to him. He tipped her $100, and she expressed appreciation for his “no tax on tips” policy, claiming it benefited her financially.
Almost instantly, liberals and anti-Trump activists took to social media to denounce the company. A user lamented, “I can’t believe I’ve spent so much on DoorDash. I deleted my account because of this ridiculous stunt with Trump. Seriously, forget you.” This sentiment echoed through various posts.
A user identifying as Canadian stated, “I’ve been a DoorDash customer for years, but today I deleted the app. Other services don’t promote pedophiles. Just no more DoorDash for me.” Another commenter expressed frustration, saying they found it tough to delete their account but felt compelled to do so, declaring their disdain for Trump and the company.
“Delete DoorDash!” was a common refrain, with numerous users repeating similar sentiments. One critic mentioned canceling their subscription, wishing for a mass exodus from the service. Others mocked the idea of using “fake drivers” to promote what they considered a pathetic scene.
Another long-time customer echoed the sentiment of disappointment, suggesting DoorDash reconsider its marketing strategies. They lamented, “After years of loyal use, I can’t support a company that utilizes such poor advertising tactics connected to Trump.”
Despite the backlash from many on the left, it’s worth noting that the company’s stock performed well, reportedly hitting highs weeks after the incident.
