E. Jean Carroll, who has accused Trump, is under investigation for criminal perjury linked to a major Democratic donor, according to reports.

E. Gene Carroll, known for her role in a dating site, faced significant controversy when accusations against her resurfaced. Some of these allegations, particularly regarding Donald Trump, have brought attention to claims of sexual abuse and defamation related to an event at Bergdorf Goodman in the 1990s. Carroll’s legal challenges against Trump are multifaceted, encompassing both her allegations of misconduct and those of defamation based on his public denial of the incident.

In court, Trump’s legal team suggested Carroll was aided by her lawyers in offering false testimony. Meanwhile, Carroll’s latest legal actions have resulted in Trump seeking substantial damages, although he might now have to mount his defense.

A significant investigation is underway by the Justice Department, allegedly probing Carroll for potential perjury in her statements. This scrutiny seems to be focused on claims she made during a deposition in 2022 regarding the funding of her legal battle—funding that later turned out to be misleading.

When asked about outside financial support for her legal fees in 2022, Carroll denied any involvement—though later developments indicated otherwise. A jury had found Trump civilly liable for both sexual abuse and defamation in May 2023, yet claims surfaced suggesting that efforts to fund Carroll’s lawsuit may have been significantly backed by prominent figures.

Trump’s defense posited that the timing and nature of the funding disclosures raised crucial doubts about the intentions behind the lawsuit. His team criticized the idea that Carroll’s legal team could have suddenly forgotten the details of how the case was financed, calling it implausible given the prolonged period and complexity of the lawsuits involved.

In their arguments, Trump’s lawyers claimed that Carroll perjured herself during her deposition while her legal team allegedly conspired to hide the facts related to funding for months prior to her trial. In denying a request to postpone proceedings for further investigation into this funding issue, the presiding judge expressed concerns about potential bias introduced by the newly revealed information.

As these events unfold, Carroll’s attorney asserted that outside financial support had no bearing on her case and that claims regarding political agendas surrounding the lawsuit were unfounded. Meanwhile, the investigation launched by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois proceeded with caution, as deeper questions about Carroll’s claims and motives remain unanswered. Carroll has yet to comment on the ongoing inquiries, and the Justice Department also refrained from elaborating on the matter.
