Trump’s Polarizing Religious Imagery Sparks Controversy

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump shared an image of himself alongside Jesus, shortly after posting and then removing another image that seemed to show Jesus healing a sick individual. This latest post features Trump appearing to be embraced by Jesus.

Trump claimed the intention behind these images was to represent him as a “doctor,” not as a divine figure. He faced backlash from even some of his backers before ultimately taking the post down. During an impromptu press conference, he remarked, “Only fake news would come up with a post like that,” insisting his actions were aligned with support for the Red Cross.

His critics didn’t hold back. For instance, former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene accused him of “replacing Jesus,” while journalist Megan Basham labeled the image as “outrageous blasphemy,” urging its removal.

Before the post, Trump had openly criticized Pope Leo XIV, calling him “weak” on issues of foreign policy and crime. He expressed frustration over how the Pope framed fear regarding his administration but failed to acknowledge the fears faced by Christian leaders during the pandemic, when many were arrested for conducting services.

Pope Leo responded with his own critiques, emphasizing that “God does not bless any conflict” and underscoring the need for coexistence and dialogue rather than military action.

The Vatican recently disputed reports about a meeting involving U.S. officials, stating that the discussions were part of normal diplomatic exchanges and refuting claims made by various media outlets.
