Allegations of Verbal Aggression Between Lena Dunham and Adam Driver
Actress and author Lena Dunham has accused actor Adam Driver of being “verbally aggressive” during their time together on the HBO series girl.
In her new memoir, fame chic, released on Tuesday, Dunham details her experiences with Driver while filming. She described him as “verbally aggressive, condescending, and physically imposing,” alleging that he “once threw a chair into the wall next to me.” She also mentioned that during their initial sex scene, Driver “threw me all over the place.”
“He may be short-tempered, verbally aggressive, condescending, and physically imposing. He may even be protective and loving,” she wrote.
Dunham noted that over the three years of filming, she and Driver had become somewhat estranged, barely communicating. However, as the final season wrapped up, they both “continued to cry” between takes.
“For just a second, it felt like he was saying he was sorry,” Dunham reflected. “Maybe I was like that too. I had no idea how to manage him, what he needed, how to keep his face from contorting with frustration and anger.”
Driver reportedly told Dunham, “I want you to know that I will always love you,” after filming, but since that time, she hasn’t heard from him.
Driver has not publicly responded to the allegations in the memoir.
Additionally, Dunham opened up about her past relationship with ex-boyfriend Jack Antonoff, revealing details about her emotional struggles and infidelity. She recounted how Antonoff’s closeness with a “teen pop star” impacted their relationship and mentioned her past with a middle school sweetheart named Nick, which ultimately led to her breakup with Antonoff.
“When their relationship deteriorated due to Dunham’s health problems, she admitted, ‘I never stopped flirting — I mean, I wasn’t dead yet — but I kept a close eye on the boundaries and never got far enough to be declared off-limits. If I wanted to, I might have seen that Jack wasn’t watching them as closely as I was.’
