Fifth Woman Accuses Eric Swalwell of Sexual Misconduct
Rona Drews has leveled serious accusations against former Congressman Eric Swalwell, claiming he drugged and raped her. Commentator Jonathan Turley discussed how Swalwell’s political allies seem to have shielded him despite these allegations.
Swalwell, who previously ran for president and had just exited the California gubernatorial race this week, has been facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. Notably, he reportedly spent campaign funds at a Hollywood hotel where a model has accused him of sexual assault.
Records from Swalwell’s 2018 reelection campaign show he made two payments to the Montrose Hotel on July 18, 2018, for amounts of $353 and $8. This hotel is the same location where Drews claims she was assaulted in July 2018. Swalwell has denied all accusations from Drews and other women.
Further investigation by Fox News Digital revealed a $43.24 Lyft ride taken by Swalwell on the same day. However, details about the ride—like who was with him—remain unclear.
The former congressman is currently under investigation for sexual assault in both New York and Los Angeles. FBI Director Kash Patel has reached out to Swalwell and urged any potential witnesses or victims to report to the FBI. Additionally, the House Ethics Committee has initiated its own investigation.
Donna Rotunno, a trial attorney, noted that evidence from Drews appears to corroborate the claims of another unnamed accuser from New York. Rotunno spoke positively about the New York accuser, emphasizing that she took action and went to the hospital after the incident, potentially having medical records to support her claims.
“She seems credible,” Rotunno stated, “but ultimately, it’s up to others to determine if a crime occurred.”
If investigators choose to pursue charges in Manhattan, Rotunno warned that Swalwell’s legal team would mount a robust defense. Questions surrounding consent might become central themes, particularly regarding alcohol’s influence on the events of both accusations.
Recent revelations have led other women to come forward with allegations against Swalwell following the New York accuser’s public statements. Drews has claimed that Swalwell assaulted her at the Montrose Hotel while they were there to retrieve documents related to a political event. She described the encounter in graphic detail, claiming, “He raped me, then he strangled me. I lost consciousness and thought I was dead. I did not consent.”
These allegations mirror previous accusations against Swalwell from a former staffer, raising questions about his behavior. Drews confirmed that the timeline and location of her incident aligns with Swalwell’s campaign finances.
Despite the growing number of allegations, Swalwell maintains his innocence. He announced his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race while affirming his intent to fight back against what he calls false claims. “This is my battle, not my campaign,” he wrote online.
As the situation evolves, authorities in Manhattan are awaiting any new testimonies that could further shed light on the accusations against Swalwell.
