Family Struggles in Search for Missing Woman in Bahamas
In Marsh Harbor, Bahamas, Carly Aylesworth is expressing deep frustration towards her stepfather, Brian Hooker, for choosing to stay in the Bahamas to assist in the search for his missing wife, Lynette Hooker.
“This really says a lot about him,” Carly remarked. “He lost his mother at sea and then, just the next day, he was crying on camera, telling people to continue the search,” she added during an interview.
Aylesworth, who traveled to the small island town with her boyfriend, views Brian’s actions as inconsistent with his words. She voiced her disbelief over his explanation of the events surrounding her mother’s disappearance, which occurred between Hopetown and Abaco Island.
“I just want to know what really happened to my mother and ensure there’s a complete investigation into her disappearance,” Aylesworth stated.
Upon arrival, Aylesworth and her boyfriend were seen engaging with local law enforcement shortly before taking a taxi to continue their efforts.
A family member remarked on Carly’s emotional state, noting that she was “visibly distraught” upon learning that Brian departed the Bahamas just a day before. This seemed to betray his commitment to finding Lynette, who he had been married to for 25 years and was swept overboard in rough seas.
“It’s just infuriating. This is really upsetting,” a relative expressed, highlighting the sense of betrayal felt by the family.
After no charges were filed against him, Hooker was released from police custody, though the investigation remains active, and authorities indicated he could be taken into custody again.
Family members noted that while Brian’s lawyer claimed he had to visit his sick mother, many found the timing to be questionable. “He’s been dealing with his mother’s illness for a while now, so it feels like an excuse to escape,” said one relative.
“Carly is really affected by this… It’s hard for her to understand how he can go see his mother when she can’t even say goodbye to her own.” They emphasized the emotional weight of the situation, particularly given the turmoil in Lynette’s life before her disappearance.
Concerns have also been raised about Brian’s past behavior, with relatives hinting at possible abusive tendencies linked to alcohol. “Some of us had a sense something tragic could happen, but we never expected her to just vanish,” one family member shared.
When asked if they would ever have a conversation with Hooker again, the family was firm: “No.” It was a definitive answer, showing their resolve and frustration in the current situation.
While in the Bahamas, Carly and her boyfriend are committed to retracing the steps Lynette and Brian took leading up to her disappearance, hoping to glean more insights.
Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard collaborated with Bahamian officials to intensify search efforts, which have now been reclassified as rescue missions.
