Franklin Graham: 'I Don't Think President Trump Would Intentionally Compare Himself to Jesus Christ'

Graham Discusses Trump’s Controversial Post

In a recent discussion, Graham shared his thoughts on some questions surrounding the president. He emphasized that he doesn’t think President Trump would deliberately compare himself to Jesus Christ, calling it entirely inappropriate. Graham appreciated that Trump clarified he never intended for an AI-generated image to imply that. He believed Trump thought he was being depicted as a doctor helping someone and promptly took the post down upon realizing it raised concerns.

Graham further highlighted that the image lacked any spiritual symbols, like halos or crosses. Instead, it featured symbols of patriotism—things like a flag, a soldier, a nurse, a fighter plane, an eagle, and the Statue of Liberty. He expressed that this whole situation seems like much ado about nothing and criticized what he called malicious speculation. Referring to Trump’s critics, he remarked that they often seem eager to undermine him.

This week, Trump also shared another person’s illustration on Truth Social, where Jesus was shown next to Trump with a comforting hand on his shoulder. Graham mentioned how he appreciated this representation, suggesting it resonates with the idea that everyone needs to hear messages of guidance.

He reiterated that there’s a tendency to misconstrue these images, stating that Trump didn’t create them; he merely reposted something he found appealing. Graham also made a point to remind listeners of his identity as an evangelical, noting his respect for Trump’s defense of religious freedoms for everyone, particularly for both evangelicals and Catholics.

He described Trump as the most supportive pro-Christian and pro-life president he’s known, expressing a hope for a future meeting between Trump and Pope Leo XIV, in which the Pope could express gratitude for Trump’s commitment to religious liberty.

Interestingly, Trump recently shared another image of himself with Jesus, expressing positivity about the reaction from some, despite criticism from left-leaning individuals. The meme’s caption stirred further controversy, alluding to a belief in exposing wrongdoing and a divine influence playing a role in the current events.

This discussion unfolded alongside Trump’s disagreements with Pope Leo XIV, who had made critical remarks about Trump’s leadership in crime and foreign policy. The contrasting perspectives continue to fuel conversations around the intersection of faith and politics.
