Guy Fieri Responds Following Controversy Over Meeting with Tate Brothers

Guy Fieri addressed the backlash he received after meeting Andrew and Tristan Tate at a UFC event in Florida. The incident drew considerable attention online after a video showed the celebrity chef engaging with the brothers, who are facing serious allegations including rape and human trafficking. This encounter occurred during UFC 327 on April 11 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, as reported by Page Six. The Tates are under investigation in several countries, including the UK, for a total of 21 alleged offenses, though they have denied any wrongdoing.

In response to the uproar, Fieri denied having any prior relationship with the Tates and pushed back against critics on social media. He expressed his feelings on April 14, stating, “I’m seeing all of your comments about the photo from Saturday’s UFC event and all I can say is that I’m devastated.” He explained that he was simply there for the fights when the Tates recognized him and initiated the greeting.

The reaction from social media was swift and harsh, with many expressing anger over Fieri’s association with the Tates. Comments included statements like, “Ewwwwww @GuyFieri what the heck are you doing?! You were the only person who helped people in the restaurant industry during COVID. This is just wrong. I’ve lost all respect for you,” and other users echoed discontent, calling the encounter a dealbreaker.

Some responses included messages indicating they had blocked Fieri on social media, a reflection of how upset some fans felt. On April 14, Waterloo Sparkling Water even canceled a scheduled media appearance for Fieri, highlighting the impact of the incident.

In his statement, Fieri defended himself by saying, “I was there to see the fights, and when I was walking through the venue, the Tate brothers stood up and said hello, and that’s when the exchange happened. I did not know them or about them before that moment.” He clarified, “I’ll never pretend to be a perfect person, but let me be crystal clear, I do not know the Tate brothers nor do I support them in any way.”

Recently, a Romanian court lifted some judicial restrictions on the Tate brothers as their cases continue. Notably, a travel ban on them was lifted in February 2025, according to earlier reports.
