Walmart plans to renovate more than 650 stores and launch 20 new ones.

Walmart has revealed plans to renovate over 650 stores across the U.S. and open around 20 new locations by early 2027. This announcement follows its commitment in 2024 to launch or convert more than 150 new stores while updating existing ones.

The retail giant stated that this initiative aims to create jobs, enhance local economies, and streamline the shopping experience for customers. Walmart emphasized that the renovations and new stores would generate construction jobs during the projects and establish a strong presence in retail and pharmacy sectors.

Customers might notice various changes, such as refreshed interiors and exteriors with wider aisles, new layout designs, expanded product selections, more pickup and delivery options—including express service—along with improved parking and landscaping. New digital interfaces will also help in informing in-store shoppers about online product availability.

Additionally, the renovation will upgrade Walmart’s Vision Center and pharmacy, which will include private consultation rooms. Moreover, Walmart’s neighborhood markets will see enhancements like upgraded deli sections, better inventory management, pharmacy delivery services, and increased lighting and equipment. Some of these locations are being updated through rapid retrofit programs, aiming to minimize disruptions.

Walmart’s commitment to catering to value-seeking customers has fueled sales growth. The company stated, “Our goal is simple: We want to make shopping easy, intuitive, and connected, all while maintaining the everyday low prices our customers expect.”

So far this year, Walmart has opened new locations in Eastvale, California, Apollo Beach, and Jacksonville in Florida. They also announced plans to expand the supercenter in Tucson, Arizona, and introduce a new supercenter in Celina, Texas. Additionally, in 2025, nine stores are slated to open across Alabama, California, Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and Utah.

The announcement of store renovations and openings coincides with Walmart’s recent major redesign of its flagship Great Value label, which encompasses around 10,000 food and household items. This marks the first significant update to the brand in over ten years and represents the largest private label refresh in Walmart’s history.
