Skydiver Rescued After Parachute Incident at Virginia Tech Football Game
During a spring football game at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium on Saturday, an alarming incident occurred when a skydiver became stuck mid-air after his parachute snagged on the scoreboard. Despite his efforts to steer towards the field, the wind hindered his maneuvers, resulting in him hanging helplessly above the game without being able to descend safely.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and employed a crane to safely retrieve the skydiver from his precarious position. Thankfully, Virginia Tech later announced that the skydiver was safe and in stable condition, emphasizing their concern for his health above all else.
In a statement, the university expressed deep gratitude to the first responders and event staff for their immediate and effective actions during the chaotic situation.
This game also marked the beginning of a new chapter for Virginia Tech football, as the team is now under the leadership of head coach James Franklin. His hiring came after the termination of Brent Pry, who faced a tough start to the season. After Pry’s departure, the team had a roughly even record, finishing the season at 3-9.
Franklin’s coaching history features plenty of ups and downs, most notably his tenure at Penn State, where he averaged over 20 wins a season without capturing a national title. His past accomplishments include winning several bowl games, which he hopes to replicate while leading Virginia Tech.
There’s a significant amount of anticipation surrounding his ability to revitalize the program, especially considering how the Hokies have had a challenging few seasons, with only two winning records since 2018.
As events unfold, many are hoping this incident doesn’t overshadow what should be an exciting journey for the team.
