Sophie Cunningham shares baptism video on TikTok after signing new deal with Fever

Sophie Cunningham extends her contract with Indiana Fever for another year.

Indiana Fever’s much-loved player, Sophie Cunningham, made headlines recently after she participated in her second baptism following her new contract, which ensures she plays alongside Caitlin Clark. On Sunday, she signed a one-year contract valued at $665,000, and on Tuesday, she shared a TikTok video of her “baptism into adulthood.” In her post, Cunningham expressed mixed feelings, saying it was bittersweet to be baptized as an adult, though she enjoyed the occasion, writing, “Thank you, Jesus.”

The combination of Clark, Cunningham, and teammate Lexi Hull has turned into a dynamic one on the court. They gained quite the following last year, even adopting the nickname “Tres leches” from fans. This Spanish term translates to “three milks” and refers to a sponge cake cherished in Latin America. Hull remarked she first saw the nickname trending on Twitter, and it just took off from there.

Last season, Cunningham captured the hearts of Fever fans after stepping in during an on-court clash to defend Clark. An intense moment unfolded in a game against Connecticut, where an altercation broke out after Clark was pushed to the floor. Cunningham reacted strongly, leading to a physical skirmish that resulted in multiple players being ejected.

Now in her second season with the Fever, Cunningham and her teammates are gearing up for what many hope will be a title run in the WNBA. Interestingly, she is part of a rising wave of female basketball stars who openly celebrate their faith through baptism. Recently, top draft pick Azee Fad and UW standout KK Arnold reportedly underwent baptism after games during the Women’s Final Four, according to sources.
