Nikki Bella, the WWE Superstar, recently described her last couple of weeks as particularly tough after breaking her ankle. This unfortunate injury meant she had to miss out on WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas this weekend.
She shared a video showcasing her bruised ankle, which required several stitches. “It’s been a painful two weeks. I broke my ankle, tore it, and sprained it,” she expressed, adding a heartbroken emoji.
Nikki and her twin sister, Brie Bella, had planned to return to the ring as a team during a four-team tag match at Allegiant Stadium, competing for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against opponents like Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair.
In a surprising twist, Paige filled in for Nikki and teamed up with Brie to win the match, ultimately becoming the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
After the event, Nikki shared her thoughts on Paige stepping in. “I actually had surgery two weeks ago, which led to my ankle problems,” she said. It’s quite a coincidence, she pointed out, adding that she and Brie were on the phone discussing her absence from WrestleMania.
“There’s no way I’m going to be at WrestleMania, but I still have to have my moment,” she noted, reflecting on how special it was to have Paige involved. “Honestly, there’s no other wrestler I’d rather see hold the title than Paige,” she added sincerely.
Although she was sidelined, Nikki still made an appearance on the red carpet with Brie at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, donning walking boots due to her injury.
The injury happened during SmackDown on March 27, and in the following weeks, she was spotted in New York wearing the boots, leading to speculation about her return for WrestleMania.
WrestleMania 42’s first night boasted many exciting moments, including singer Jelly Roll shocking fans by slamming Pat McAfee into the announcer’s table. Additionally, Becky Lynch clinched the Women’s Intercontinental title from AJ Lee, while Cody Rhodes managed to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton—although Orton upset the crowd by stealing the belt before ending the night with a kick to Rhodes’ head.
