DeChambeau Eyes Big Contract Despite LIV Golf’s Uncertain Future
Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open champion, isn’t letting LIV Golf’s financial troubles deter him from pursuing a substantial salary. His current contract with the Rebel Golf League is set to expire at the end of this season, and reports suggest he’s aiming for a $500 million deal with LIV.
This news arrives amidst speculation that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) may cut funding for the tour following this season, casting doubt on LIV’s future.
Initially, LIV had the advantage of a generous financial backing from PIF, which allowed them to attract players like DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Brooks Koepka from the PGA Tour. Now, however, the league may need to look for significant new investment to remain viable.
Interestingly, even before the murmurs about LIV’s stability began, DeChambeau was reportedly exploring options with various organizations during Masters week. I mean, you can’t blame him for weighing his choices, right?
At just 32, he commands a substantial following on platforms like YouTube, suggesting he could find lucrative opportunities beyond regular tournaments.
Recently, DeChambeau took part in LIV’s event in Mexico City but faced challenges. He expressed frustration over the course conditions and eventually withdrew from the tournament, citing discomfort in his wrist. In a social media post, he explained, “During yesterday’s round, I felt some discomfort in my wrist, so I decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury.”
Interestingly, after finishing his two-over round on Saturday, he seemed visibly annoyed, passing a young fan hoping for an autograph without stopping.
On a different note, DeChambeau was seen having an extended conversation with Rahm before the tournament began, which caught the attention of other players. It’s intriguing how dynamics shift in such competitive environments.
