NBA Offseason Moves for the Suns

Just a few days into the NBA offseason, the Phoenix Suns are already making headlines.

The team has decided to bring back guard Collin Gillespie with a four-year deal worth $48 million, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

This marks Gillespie’s first official contract since his rookie season in 2023-24, although he has been with the team under a two-way contract up till now.

Last season, Gillespie really found his stride, averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists over 80 games. Notably, he also set a franchise record for the Suns with 232 three-pointers in a single season.

He started in 58 games last year, playing a significant role at both guard spots alongside five-time All-Star Devin Booker.

After signing Gillespie, the Suns are projected to have just $4 million left, which is exempt from the $205 million luxury tax.

The Suns had a remarkable turnaround this season, bouncing back from missing the playoffs in 2024-25 to finishing with a 45-37 record and securing the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. However, their playoff run was cut short as they were eliminated by the Thunder in the first round.

During the All-Star break, general manager Brian Gregory emphasized how the organization managed to create a different culture, contributing to their early playoff return.

“Last spring, just before the first game, we discussed creating a new identity. We wanted a culture based on toughness, grit, and self-interest,” Gregory noted to reporters. “Our success is measured not only by wins but by fostering daily habits that promote these traits.”

He expressed optimism about the team’s future. “I think they’re in a good position. I see progress in all the key areas. I believe that our fans, and the supportive community in Phoenix, can feel the positive changes. We’re heading in the right direction,” he commented.
