Collins: Ossoff Unconcerned About the 'Collateral Damage' of Illegal Immigration

Rep. Mike Collins Criticizes Democrats on Immigration Issues

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) expressed concern regarding Democrats, particularly Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), suggesting that they “don’t care about the collateral damage” resulting from illegal immigration. Collins, who is campaigning for Ossoff’s U.S. Senate seat, pointed to specific incidents, including the murder of Laken Riley by an undocumented immigrant released by the Biden administration. He highlighted cases where undocumented individuals were permitted to operate vehicles, leading to fatal accidents.

Collins played a key role in promoting the Laken-Riley Act, which was enacted during the Trump administration. Currently, he is pushing for Dalila’s Act, aimed at prohibiting undocumented immigrants from acquiring commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

He criticized Ossoff directly, stating, “He will do… I can’t even stand up. People like Laken Riley, brutally murdered by illegal criminals, have already been captured and released twice. And a simple solution was right in front of him. I personally spoke to him, and he didn’t lift a finger to assist me with it. This shows where he stands.” Collins contended that Ossoff opposes measures like the Save America Act.

“Democrats don’t worry about the collateral damage. They’re focused on retaining power. They do this by facilitating illegal immigrants to a point where they might vote. They provide them with housing, transportation, food, and freedom,” he added. Collins made a point of accusing Democrats of neglecting the consequences of their actions for the sake of securing voters.

Collins also mentioned a group of prominent Democrats, stating, “AOC, Jon Ossoff, Ilhan Omar—stack them all together, and there’s a problem. We have a significant opportunity ahead. It won’t be easy, but the Senate must deal with one of them. We need individuals ready to fight for our country and values, and that’s my goal.”

Current fundraising and polling indicate that Collins is leading in the race for the May 19 Republican primary. Representing Georgia’s 10th Congressional District and managing his own trucking company, Collins is facing competition from first-time candidates backed by Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.), including former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley and pharmacist Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.). He’s working to capture the seat held by Ossoff, seen as one of the more vulnerable Democrats seeking re-election.

According to a recent fundraising report, Collins has raised over $1 million in the first quarter of 2026, outpacing his opponents, with Dooley at approximately $664,000 and Carter around $470,000. Collins commented on the fundraising figures, stating they demonstrate strong “momentum.” He said, “We outperformed both of them combined. The momentum is in our favor, especially with early voting starting on April 27th and the primary on May 19th.” He acknowledged the challenge that if no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, a runoff will be required, with the top two candidates then competing against Ossoff in November.
