Temple University student violently attacked by group of teenagers

A Philadelphia college student was reportedly assaulted by a group of boys in a violent encounter on the Temple University campus, which was caught on video.

This incident took place around 2:50 a.m. Sunday, when the group pursued students into the Morgan Hall South dormitory, according to the Temple University Police Department.

Once inside, the group attacked some students and caused damage to university property, police stated.

The student, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained minor injuries but declined medical help on the scene.

The attackers also reportedly destroyed a monitor at the security desk within the dormitory.

Police have released surveillance images showing at least nine youths believed to be involved in the assault. Some were wearing hoodies to conceal their identities, while others were captured clearly on camera.

No one has been arrested so far.

Authorities are collaborating with safety officials from the Philadelphia School District and the Philadelphia Police Department, seeking public assistance in identifying the attackers.

The motive behind the assault at one of the largest dormitories on campus, which accommodates over 1,200 students, is still under investigation.

Deputy Chief Gaetano Sava of the Temple Police expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of student safety. He stated, “That’s alarming. Whenever someone is victimized, that’s alarming to us. We take it very seriously.”

Police have also acquired cellphone footage of the attack, indicating that the investigation is ongoing. “We hope the community can help us identify those involved,” Sava added.

Temple University sophomore Emmanuel Turner reflected on the event, noting it brings safety concerns to the forefront for many students. He mentioned that education often takes priority over personal safety, but incidents like this change that perspective.

In response to the assault, police have increased their presence in the area and are encouraging students to use campus safety resources, such as the TU Safety app for assistance and transportation.

Temple University is situated in downtown Philadelphia and has about 30,000 students enrolled in the academic year.
