Assault on Temple University Student
A Temple University student was forced into a dormitory by a group of juveniles who then assaulted him and caused damage to property. This incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
The attack took place inside the Morgan Hall South dorm, located at Broad Street and Oxford Street in North Philadelphia. According to reports from WPVI-TV, the university police have released surveillance images that feature at least nine individuals suspected of being involved.
The authorities mentioned that while the victim sustained minor injuries, he chose not to seek medical assistance. The police are currently looking into the events that led up to this aggressive encounter.
A witness to the investigation noted that cellphone footage captured parts of the chaos, including one suspect breaking a monitor at the security desk within the dormitory’s lobby.
After discussing the incident with reporters, a student—who had previously lived in the dorm—expressed concern over campus safety following a notification about the attack. “I mean, this really puts the threat into perspective, you know? As college students, our focus is usually on education, not necessarily on safety, but this situation definitely shifts that view,” said sophomore Emmanuel Turner.
Temple university police officials are collaborating with the Philadelphia police and local school district safety officials to identify those accountable for the assault.
Deputy Chief Gaetano Sava of Temple Police described the incident as “alarming,” emphasizing their commitment to student safety. “Whenever there’s an incident involving our residents, it raises serious concerns. We take these matters very seriously,” he stated.
Authorities have stepped up patrols around the campus and are urging anyone with relevant information to reach out, either to the Philadelphia police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or Temple’s Investigation Unit at 215-204-6200.
