Another ex-teacher from a Christian school receives sentence for sexually abusing the same student following the victim's touching testimony

Former Georgia Teacher Sentenced for Sexual Abuse

A Georgia teacher has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a male student at a Christian school. The verdict came after a jury found Bonnie Brown, 27, guilty of multiple counts of inappropriate sexual contact during deliberations that lasted about three hours.

Following her conviction on June 11, Judge Stephen A. Bradley sentenced Brown to 40 years in prison, with the first 15 years to be served behind bars. Upon release, she will be required to register as a sex offender.

Before the sentencing, Judge Bradley emphasized the trust placed in educators, stating, “We expect individuals placed in certain positions to behave in a manner that benefits the children in their care.”

Brown’s legal troubles began when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested her in March 2025. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office had received reports of inappropriate sexual contact between Brown and the student. At that point, Brown was employed at an elementary school in Wilkes County.

During the trial, the victim, now 19, shared a heartfelt testimony about the psychological scars left by the abuse, particularly how it felt coming from someone in a position of authority. He recounted feeling overwhelmed while recounting his experiences, which led to emotional distress in the courtroom. Witnesses noted that he was visibly shaken and required support from a victim advocate.

In an emotional plea, the victim urged the court to recognize that Brown had not taken full accountability for her actions and requested the maximum sentencing. The Assistant District Attorney remarked on how the victim’s testimony underscored the deep trauma associated with teacher-student sexual abuse.

Brown’s father attempted to defend her character during the proceedings, describing her as a straight-A student and a valedictorian with no prior criminal record. He expressed concern about his daughter’s state since the arrest and asked the judge for leniency.

In the aftermath of the trial, the district attorney praised the victim’s bravery in speaking out, noting the prevailing message from the verdict: the community does not tolerate such behavior, and those actions have lasting implications.

This case reflects broader issues within educational institutions; it was also revealed that the same victim had experienced abuse from another teacher at Nathanael Green Academy. Sherry Mauldin, a 61-year-old former teacher, recently pleaded guilty to charges involving sexual activity with a 15-year-old student. She received a 25-year prison sentence and was also required to register as a sex offender.

In light of these incidents, Nathanael Green Academy’s operations have reportedly ceased, though comments from the institution were not immediately available.
