D4vd Faces Serious Charges in Murder Case
D4vd, known offstage as David Burke, has been charged with the murder and sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. Given the high-profile nature of the case, he has been transferred to a new prison and is being kept separate from other inmates.
Burke was arraigned in Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail on Monday night, where he pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, engaging in sexual relations with a minor, and various other charges related to Celeste Rivas’ death.
His new prison environment is marked by isolation due to being labeled a “notable” prisoner.
Prosecutors allege that the 21-year-old musician killed Rivas using a “sharp instrument” after threatening to expose their sexual relationship, which could have jeopardized her career and led to legal trouble for her. Allegedly, he further mutilated her body and concealed it in two bags found in his Tesla months after the crime took place.
Charged with first-degree murder under special circumstances, Burke faces accusations including ambush and murder aimed at financial gain, as well as killing a witness involved in the investigation.
This “witness” charge reportedly refers to Rivas’ role in the ongoing sexual misconduct inquiry. Additional charges against Burke consist of committing lewd acts on a child under 14 and corpse mutilation. Depending on the outcome, he faces the possibility of life in prison.
During the arraignment, Burke stayed silent, largely hidden from view as his defense team shielded him from the courtroom’s gaze. Handcuffed and dressed in dark clothing, he did not speak while his attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The hearing occurred soon after the formal charges were laid out. Family members of the victim, including her parents and sister, were present in court. Burke’s family, however, expressed unwavering support for him, stating, “We are disappointed but not surprised that the district attorney made this decision. David’s family supports him 100%,” according to a statement relayed through attorney Kent Schaefer.
